Looking for Spring

A few geranium blossoms are blooming but that is all so far. All the trees are thinking about blooming and leafing out but nothing yet. Lilacs have a few green spots that I think are the beginnings of leaves. And I found a couple of tumbleweeds that had sprouted where they weren't wanted. Of course tumbleweeds are never wanted.
I have fixed three pots with tomato seeds and four pots with a few flower seeds but nothing has come up yet.
We are getting warmer, almost to warm. No more freezing at night. And thinking about getting my shorts out for wearing in the afternoons when working outside. It hasn't reached 70 degrees here yet but that is to warm for me. Oh, how I dread those 90 to 100 degree days that I know are coming this summer.
Trying to get a lot of yard cleaning done before those hot days get here. It always amazes me how much clutter there is after a long winter.

Wind & Flowers

It's been very windy here in the Land of Enchantment. Spring is always windy. A trip to downtown Rio Rancho last week showed that the trees and flowers are all blooming despite the wind. But here on the west mesa I still have to see the first blossom on a flowering trees. They are trying but the wind is sucking the moisture and life right out of them. We keep thinking it is over but then it will come again.

Be sure to check out Cindy's Snaps ( see the list at right for the link) as she has some beautiful flower photos of spring in England.

Purple Wild Flower

This purple wildflower is blooming all over the desert. This one is right by my house. They are such a lushish shade of purple but if you look close you can see the hair-like stickers that they will have when they are through blooming. These will go right through cotton gardening gloves and are as bad as cactus stickers to remove for the glove or your skin.

spring on the desert

Spring has come to the desert as well as to my yard. We drove out a few miles the other day and found these tiny clumps of yellow flowers growing everywhere. I don't know what they are called. There are some cactus growing near these that will blooming in a few weeks.

Redbud Tree Blossoms

the redbud tree is one of my favorite trees. They have these tiny, pinkish-purple blossoms in late spring. There are clusters of thousands of the pretty little blooms that sort of look like tiny orchids. The bees flock to them so they must be very sweet and loaded with pollen.
