Deer

We saw 2 little skinny deer in the mountains. They were small and looked to be fawns that had lost their spots or else last years fawns. They were the most skinny deer I have ever seen up there. You could count their ribs. We didn't understand that as their seemed to be plenty of grass for them to eat and they were grazing as we watched them. I do hope the little things manage to put on some weight so they can survive the winter. Also hope they learn to be more afraid of people as hunting season will be here soon, although it is illegal to shoot a deer up here that doesn't have antlers, and these two didn't.

Indian Bread

The first photo is of a horno or oven that the Pueblo Native Americans bake their oven bread in. This day I didn't get the oven bread but got the fry bread which is a dough that they work out into a circle sort of like pizza dough. Then they fry it in a cast iron kettle full of hot oil that is on a wood fire usually of mesquite wood which gives it a really good taste. Some people like to sprinkle powered sugar or put honey on it but we prefer it just plain. It's best while still hot but still good even hours later when room temperature. We bought some and ate about half of it, then saved the rest for our picnic in the mountains. We had the left over bread with a boiled egg, some canned fruit cocktail.

Muddy Creek

Jemez Creek looked very muddy yesterday when we took a drive up to the Jemez Mountains. There have been several good rains there and the dry conditions have probably caused a lot of very dry dirt to run into the creek.

Good Morning

My morning glory flowers are now doing great. The tiny spots aren't camera problems but are pollen.

Gourds

My gourd crop is small this year but they look to be nice ones. Have about six at this time.

Dogs

Tuffee is really fussy about having her picture taken. She always turns her back or runs away when I try to take a close up of her.
